All i can say is YUM! Steel Bar and Grill is such a great restaurant. The food, the drinks, the dessert *drifts into a drooling dreamy daze*. I think its delicious menu has been calling to Ellen and i for a while, and we finally gave in to its pull.

My outfit comprised of a lovely Alannah Hill dress, cute little wedges from Truworths, and a belt from Cue. And to add a bit of bling and glamour, a lovely seed pearl and emerald ring from Dresden Dollz, a scarab bracelet from Nouveau Motley, and a diamond ring from Tresors.

Now onto the food!!!!!

Totally amazing cocktails. I had one called an Aztec iced tea, and Ellen enjoyed a Mrs K.

Very nice share plate. Squid stuffed with an array of herbs and spices and some kind of wholewheat cous cous type ingredient. Yum,

The main courses were incredible. They certainly know how to cook meat at this place, and with a name like theirs you'd hope they would. I had pork wrapped in pancetta with spinach and potato gratin. Ellen had lamb with eggplant, olive and capsicum.

Mmmm desserts. Vanilla creme brule with pistachio biscoti and strawberries....oh my god, can't even describe how good it was. Ellen's was pretty amazing too, dark chocolate mousse cake with burnt orange ice cream and honeycomb bits.

Needless to say, we were both in heaven. Can't wait to go back hehe.

What to wear to a wedding?

It's been a long time since i've been to a wedding, a good 14+ years. So when i received a wedding invitation in the mail i was rather excited.

It was a beautiful ceremony. There was so much happiness and excitement, it was really lovely. The reception was beautiful too, right on Bondi Beach, a delicious seafood dinner, the sun setting in the background.

Here are some photos of my outfit (which, truth be told, i have been dying to wear since i bought the dress and shoes at a DJ's sale).

Knitted Bikini Pattern

It's been a beautiful sunny week in Sydney, certainly a nice change from the oddly cold summer we've had so far. I spent a few days at Bondi Beach, and various other beaches, and suddenly had the strange urge to knit myself a bikini. I didn't want it so much for wearing purposes as i did for the challenge of making the actual thing. It only took me a couple of days, and one failed bikini bottom to finish this lovely (if a bit imperfect) bikini. What do you think?

The pattern is very simple, and all have to do is decide how revealing you want it to be. I made the bottoms slightly too scanty for my own liking, but a few extra stitches to begin with would solve that problem.

There are 3 main parts to this bikini.

The top (repeat these steps twice for each triangle):

Cast on 33 stitches, and for 18 rows work in a stockinette stitch (1 knit row, 1 purl row).

Then for the next 16 rows knit 2 stitches as normal, then knit 2 stitches together, and another 2 together. Knit the rest of the row as normal until you reach the last stitches, where you will knit 2 together, knit 2 together and then knit the last 2 as normal. This will result in a more even and neat outer edge, and will slowly reduce the bikini to a point, making a triangle. Only do this on knit rows, not purl rows. Cast off.

The front bottom:

Cast on 52 stitches and knit in stockinette stitch for 4-8 rows depending on how much coverage you want, but 4 works nicely. After this you can begin to decrease stitches as you did with the bikini top. So knit 2 normal stitches, then 2 together and another 2 together on each side. Do this until you have only 18 stitches left on the needle, and which point continue in stockinette with no more stitch reductions, for about 10 rows. Cast off.

The back bottom:

Cast on 72 stitches for a fairly scanty bikini bottom, or 82-92 for more coverage. Knit 4-8 rows in stockinette (make sure you knit the same amount of rows as you did for front bottoms). Then begin to reduce stitches as you did with the front bottom until you have only 18 stitches left on the needle. Then continue in stockinette until you think you have enough length to form the underneath of the bikini. Cast off.

Now take the two parts of the bikini bottoms and pin them together with your chosen sides facing inwards. Then use a large needle, threaded with matching wool, to sew the 18 stitch parts together. Knit 4 ropes to tie the side of the bikini bottoms together. You do this by casting on 1-2 stitches and knitting until you are happy with the length of the rope. Then threat this through the side of the bikini, or sew into place so that you can tie the sides together.

The prevent the upper edges from sagging you should fold them over a piece of elastic, and sew until the elastic is in place. This gives it a real bikini feel, and will prevent it from slipping down or bunching strangely.

The bikini top will also need ties, so create a rope that is long enough to go around your ribcage, with some extra length to tie into a bow. This will be the main tie. Then make 2 smaller ties that will attach to the tips of the triangles, and tie as a halter around you neck. Like the bikini bottoms, line the long strange along the bottoms of the triangles and fold the bottoms over and sew, so that the rope in able to slide back and forth. Then attach the smaller ropes to the tips of the triangles, and voila, a bikini.

Play around with the pattern a little until you're happy. Maybe add some other things in, fun patterns, stripes maybe. Use wool that is water resistant if you intend on wearing this bikini in the water, and otherwise choose any type of wool you like the look of.

Chrismukkah!

Merry Christmas friends! I cannot believe another Christmas has just been and gone. It seems like this year has sped by at a pace, and boom it's suddenly December.

Must say it was a lovely, quiet Christmas with the family, rather different to last years fiesta. We had a beautiful turkey, which i stupidly forgot to photograph, delicious crispy potatoes, plenty of roasted vegetables, and all the marvelous sauces and gravies.

My Christmas continued the next day, with the (so far) 3 year tradition of Friend Christmas. Essentially my uni friends hate spending Christmas with their families and would much rather be spending it with each other, so we get together and celebrate with booze, barbecuing, and Kris Kringle. It was a really lovely day, despite the almost horrible weather.

Christmas didn't end there. On the 27th i joined Ellen's group of friends for their Group Christmas. Drinks and nibblies at Jan's place (OMG the homemade spinach dip was a.m.a.z.i.n.g.), and then onto Ice and Slice for pizza and gelato.

And then today was Ellen's birthday. So more celebrating, present giving and eating occurred. :)

Needless to say it's been a fun filled few days. How did you guys spend your Christmas/Hannukah/other holiday?

Films by the bucket full

I've been stuck in bed for almost a week now. And instead of succumbing to illness and sleeping the days away, i decided watching movies was a much better idea. I've plowed my way through some brilliant slasher films, but what i've really enjoyed are the films oozing with Christmassy joy. I know it's stupid, but around this time of year i do like to watch crappy Christmas movies about family and love and most importantly Santa! So here's my list of Christmas films to watch, and i'll throw in a few i am dying to watch myself.

This is such a stupid movie, and i love it. It's about a thieving Santa with a dwarf elf as a side kick. It's just a great movie. Watch it!

I can't help but want to watch this movie. A Christmas horror flick, hells yes. It appears to be a slasher film about a psychotic Santa killing sorority girls.

I love this version of Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol. It's just a sweet animated film that makes you feel all Christmassy inside.

Not quite as good as the 2001 version, but still a good take on such a well known story. I liked the somewhat darker take, and besides who can resist Jim Carey as Scrooge?

Ironic how true this movie is. People get so freakishly competitive with their Christmas decorations. I even heard a child telling they're mom "we need that Santa light mom because next door has more lights than us and it's not fair". Ridiculous, but true.

Two very over the top Hollywood romantic comedies that i am sure all of you have seen. I love them, in fact, i own them both on DVD. Hehe.

Childhood. Need i say more?

Such a nice refreshing take on Christmas. I can watch this film anytime of the year though, which is what i love about it most.

This actually gets me in the spirit of Christmas. It makes me want to buy presents and wrap them beautifully, and it even makes me want to believe in Santa Claus despite being 22 years old. Tom Hanks is great, the music is great, and really the idea of hopping on a ghost train in the middle of the night and visiting the north pole is just fantastic.

My all time favorite Christmas film ever. I have loved this movie since i was a little girl. It's bittersweet and heartwarming. A family is reunited, adults learn to put aside their stupidities, and love prevails, all because of a little angel girl. Just beautiful.

What are your favorite Christmas movies? I'd love some suggestions of news ones to watch.

A little bit of Africa

I just got back from a wonderful trip to my birthplace, Johannesburg South Africa. I had the most amazing time seeing my family, and a few of my old friends. I didn't realize just how much i'd missed them until i was there.

Mom and i did some amazing things over. We played with monkeys, cheetah's and baby lions. We went on a game drive and saw lions (which were within touching distance), elephants, rhinos, giraffes, hares, zebra, and springbok. We took a trip to Sun City for a couple of days, and spent some time tanning and swimming at their fake beach. We spent a lot of time with grandpa, Michelle and Nick which was really wonderful. Nick is so much fun, he reminds me a lot of my brother. We got a chance to see my uncles. I even saw a couple of old school friends, so strange seeing people after 7 years.

Thriller night....

So i've been a little slack as usual. I am a tragic little petunia, and an even more tragic little blogger. But i am here now with some photos of my Halloween outfit. This year i had every intention as going as a very scantily clad devil, but thought better of it and opted for Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.

Isn't Dorothy just the most adorably dressed character? She's so stylishly vintage. I tried my best to dress as closely to her as possible, and thanks to Ellen i did rather well.

Here i am all cute in Ellen's Dorothy style dress. I even have Toto as my loyal companion through Munchkin Land. And look at the pretty shoes, aren't they amazing? They are Ellen's sadly, and i love them. They worked perfectly as Ruby slippers.

I spent Halloween with some of Ellen's lovely school friends. It wasn't a rowdy night, just relaxed and calm, lots of chit chat and girly giggling. Very fun. I hope you all had as enjoyable Halloween as i did. I promise i will update again soonish with pictures from the Love Vintage Fair. But you may have to give me a couple of weeks as tomorrow i leave for Johannesburg. I am so excited. I promise to put up some photo from the trip as well. :)

Little brothers graduation

Today was my brothers graduation from high school. It was a long ceremony, many performances, and speeches, and 180 odd boys to send out into the wider world. I must say the performances were lovely, especially one in particular. An incredibly talented year 12 boy played a piano piece that he presumably transcribed himself from a number of pop songs. It was really wonderful.

Not the greatest photos of the graduation, sadly my camera was being extremely uncooperative. But he still looks lovely.

I just adore this dress, i feel so sexy and comfortable in it. I eyed it and eyed it on etsy, and kept resisting it, and when i finally decided to buy it i realized it had sold. I was so sad, i moaned to Ellen about it a number of times, i regretted not snapping it up immediately. And then guess what? I looked into my cupboard one day, and there it was, in the blue dress section. And i smiled, a big grin, realizing that Ellen had sneakily bought it for me as a treat.

I finally wore it for the first time today, it was a perfect graduation dress, everyone loved it. :) Thanks Elle!!!

A splash of colour

This weekend was absolutely delightful. Such amazing sunny, warm weather, 26 degree heat, clear skies, and a beautiful city to enjoy. I had lunch with my friend Sophie at Icebergs, the North Bondi swimming club. The view was stunning, wish i had taken my camera with, and the food was tasty. This is my super cute new dress which i've been unable to wear due to it's length. I finally hemmed it, and figured what a perfect dress to celebrate the new warm weather.

3 days of birthday!

Here's that birthday post i promised. I was spoiled absolutely rotten all weekend, it was a really lovely birthday.

On Thursday i had a nice family dinner at Kam Fook. It's a birthday tradition in our family to pick a restaurant or a meal, and i was dying for Peking duck. It was a lovely dinner, plenty of silliness and giggling, especially over the fortunes in our fortune cookies. Ellen has a trick, you just add 'in bed' to the end of your fortune, and suddenly they become hilariously pornographic and strange.

That's my gran, mom and dad, i guess that might be obvious. Can you see the family resemblance?

On the Friday night Ellen spoiled me entirely rotten. She took me to Opera Bar for dinner, we had a lovely share platter. They really know how to cook, the food was delicious, and surprisingly filling for a share platter. Then she took me to the opera to see La Boheme. Oh my goodness, what an amazing opera, especially for my first live opera experience. After the opera Ellie took me to possibly my favorite restaurant, Pony, for desert. I had an apple tart with vanilla ice-cream and caramel sauce. It was amazing. Ellen had a tasty chocolatey fondant type desert, also amazing.

Last of the birthday spoils was a lovely lunch with my friends. Have to say Bondi Social may be painful to book with, but their food is really wonderful. They have a share plate menu, and really you just pick a bunch and tuck in, and everyone gets a taste of everything.

Mmm birthday cake

It was my birthday on the 25th of August and so i celebrated with my lovely family. We had Peking Duck which i absolutely adore, and a birthday cake made by yours truly. Yes it is a little unorthodox to bake your own birthday cake, but i am the baker in the family, and happened to have a free day. Besides i can hardly think of anything better than making myself a birthday cake everyone, including myself, will enjoy.

Below is the recipe, which i really do suggest you try. It makes such a fantastically moist sponge cake, really delicious. Don't be alarmed by the batters watery consistency. It is significantly thinner than most cake batters, and i think it is this quality that makes it such a moist cake. You will need:

4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup whole milk
1/4 cup butter (salted is fine)
2 cups all-purpose flour (i used gluten free flour)
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt

Beat the eggs until they thicken and turn a creamy yellow. Add sugar and vanilla and beat.

In a bowl sift together dry ingredients, add egg mixture.

Heat milk and butter in a saucepan or microwave, and add to the batter. Beat until combined.

Pour into a greased cake tin, and bake. I cannot give an exact baking time as i didn't manage to time the cooking. It takes at least 40 minutes, but perhaps test the center with a skewer, and remove from oven when it comes out clean.

In separate saucepan add 1/2 cup water, 1 cup caster sugar, and a box of frozen (or fresh if available) raspberries. You can use a number of fruits for this section, apples, blackberries, strawberries ect. Simmer on low until the raspberries soften and form a syrupy sauce.

Once the cake has cooled slice in half and the fill with whipped cream and the cooled raspberry syrup. No need to strain the syrup unless you really feel the need.

Place cake halves together, sprinkle with icing sugar and serve.

My apologies for such a long break. I get distracted so easily, and find so little time to post my entries. But here i am, and here is a post about a lovely exploration of Bronte cemetery with Ellen.

Yes, i am pretending to be a weeping angel from Dr. Who. I couldn't help myself, that episode is just so fantastically creepy.

Ellen and i had such a lovely Sunday. We bought fish and chips and a deep fried mars bar down at Bondi Beach, and drove up to the cemetery to enjoy them. Naughty but tasty.

Elyse's 21st

I do believe i forgot to post this entry about a month ago. Can you tell i've been stressed? Oops. Well here it is, a post on the second 21st i attended last month, one of my other best friends, Elyse.

This is the birthday girl and her very cute cake (made by the same talented lady that made my 21st cake- aka her mom). The cake has cyanide and happiness comics.

Yes we are strange creatures.

Isn't my wife pretty? (ok so not actually my wife, just my bestest best friend in the whole world).

I love this dress, from Max and co. Can you tell i have a thing for blue lately? I can't help myself, i just find blue so enticing, and so calming to wear.

It was a really fun night, a beautiful location down at the Italian Village at the rocks. The food was tasty, the cake was SO yummy. And i had a lovely time catching up with friends i hadn't seen in ages.

Mmmm scones

Many many apologies, i know it's been a month since my last post, but it has been a crazy busy month filled with assignments. But i am back, and with a delectable recipe for those who love scones. This recipe is not a traditional scone recipe, but i found that it resulted in fluffy, morish scones. Enjoy!

4 cups of self-raising flour
1 or 2 tbls caster sugar
1 cup thickened cream
1 cup milk
2 tsps vanilla essence

Preheat the oven to 190 degrees, line baking tray with baking paper.

Sift dry ingredients into a bowl.

Mix wet ingredients in a pouring jug, stir and combine with dry ingredients. When the mixture forms a doughy texture, pour onto a cold surface and kneed gently until smooth.

Roll the dough out and use a round cookie cutter to make 12 even scones. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones have a golden brown tinge.

Serve them steaming hot with whipped cream and really tasty jam (my preference is raspberry), honey or syrup. Absolutely delicious!

Under the sea...

I couldn't resist titling this post with a line from one of my favorite Disney songs, as corny as that may be. And besides, this post is indeed about the sea, a 21st with a sea theme in fact.

The party was absolutely delightful, people were so brilliantly dressed up, and the venue was really lovely. Originally i thought my best friend had lost the plot when she settled on an ocean theme in the middle of Autumn. But the venue was sufficiently heated, and delightfully decorated with blow up pineapples, beach balls, and fishing nets.

Below is the cake, which was made by the wonderful mother and step father of the birthday girl, and is one of the many cakes in the birthday cake edition of Woman's Weekly. It was DELICIOUS, a vanilla sponge with a meringue and boysenberry filling. Moist and creamy and mmmm.

I was very happy with my outfit choice for this party, i think i chose quite well. I stuck to the theme but managed a sexy/elegant look (hopefully). The dress was a teal 70's maxi dress from Tractordog Vintage, and the shoes are Tsubi (i paid a grand total of $40 at the Bondi Beach markets). I went as the ocean, with strips of green satin cut into seaweed shapes pinned into my hair, a shell around my neck and pearls on my fingers. It was fun.

The gorgeous blond lass on the right is my best friend Alice, and the birthday girl, dressed as a very sexy mermaid in a 70's skirt and a bikini top hand made by her gran.

Stanly St Station

I have to give this restaurant two thumbs up for food, atmosphere and drinks. The exterior is simple enough, the interior relaxed and homely, neither really do justice to the delicious wholesome goodness of the food. I've eaten there twice now and i have every intention of going back again. And i know Elle agrees with me, and she's eaten there far more.

We started off with some very strong cocktails. A classic mohito for me and a chin chin for Ellie. Tasty to say the least.

Onto the mains which were both superb. I had the sirloin steak with creamy mash, crisp green veges and a peppercorn juis. Elle had the chicken Kiev with crispy kipfler potatoes, wilted baby spinach and mushroom and brie stuffed chicken. Really and truly they were two delicious dishes.

We finally finished with dessert, of course. A panacota with raspberry compote and vanilla bean ice-cream for myself, and homemade mango ice-cream with raspberry compote for Elle. The panacota was smooth and creamy and perfectly balanced by the tart raspberries. Ellie's mango ice-cream was rich and fruity, you could taste real mango rather than mango flavoring.

I'll leave you with something really very funny. It's the sign outside the restaurant. Just brilliantly dry. And of course our smiling faces after a brilliant meal.

A little more blue!

I've been obsessed with the color blue for a little while now. I'm not sure why, but suddenly blue seemed like the most beautiful color in the world. I own 4 pairs of blue high heels, 2 pairs of blue flats, 15 blue dresses (ranging from pale blue to navy blue) and even a blue cardigan. I just can't help myself.

Today, after some very disappointing visits to the post office over the past week, i finally got my package. And guess what it was? A 70's BLUE MAXI DRESS WITH MATCHING BOLERO! I am a little bit in love with this dress right. I'm sorry, but it's just lovely. Not only was it nice to finally get my new dress, but it was wrapped with so much love and care that i couldn't help smile while opening it. Take a look...and please excuse the iphone photos, i couldn't resist opening it up before i got home to my camera.

Such cute packaging, it was a little like pass the parcel, as one layer had a skittle flavored lip balm, and the other had a little packet of lollies. I was happy!

The little note was sweet too, it said thanks and enjoy the dress on one side and then i turned over to find a lovely quote by Coco Chanel.

Cruise

Last weekend Ellen and i went to the lovely Cruise for dinner. It was really rather lovely getting all dressed up, dining in a fancy restaurant with just about the most stunning view imaginable. As for the food, we were both a little disappointed especially considering the prices.

The cocktails were fantastic, Ellen's was champagne based, very tasty. Mine was a mohito with a twist of fresh raspberries, seriously divine. We were naughty and decided to have a bread plate before our main. I must admit the olive oil and balsamic were really lovely, a fruity hint, great compliment to the sour dough bread. Of course we both went for the same main, a veal chop coated in Gorgonzola cheese, on a bed of polenta, and mixed wild mushrooms. And because we didn't have enough on offer we ordered a side of kipfler potatoes drizzled in truffle oil and herbs. Those potatoes were incredible, i must make that known. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, amazingly rich because of the truffle oil. The veal was beautifully cooked, but far too big for either of us to finish. As lovely as the polenta, mushrooms, and reduced sweet sauce were, Elle and i both found that it was all a bit rich. It was almost like eating a very large dessert, there was no real balance. I think we were both waiting for something to offset the richness, but unfortunately that something never came.

The actual desserts were also a bit disappointing. Somewhat strange and again too rich. I really enjoyed aspects of mine, but Elle found hers a little too 'new age'. I had the white chocolate sponge cake with clotted cream, strawberry sorbet and fresh strawberries. The cake was melt in your mouth soft and spongy, sweet and perfect. The sorbet was far to sickly sweet, it just wasn't a necessary component. Elle had a dessert called the Summer Landscape, and that is quite literally what they attempted to create. It was made up of a chocolate soil base (as they called it), a scoop of mint sorbet (very odd i must say, mint ice-cream yes, sorbet no) chocolate stick trees, tiny purple edible flowers, caramalised nuts and vanilla cream. It was interesting, the only real downfall was the sorbet, it just didn't work, especially with the rich chocolatey, creaminess of the other components.

So all in all a fairly disappointing reaction from the two of us. It may sound very snobby and rude, but we do dine out a fair bit, and that restaurant just did not live up to expectations. Perhaps we just chose wrong, there were some mains being eaten by other diners that were rather tantalizing, and even some entrées that looked quite tempting. I'd recommend it for a night out enjoying a nice few, a few cocktails and maybe some small nibblies downstairs by the bar. Ta ta!

Recipe for the salmon hater

I know a lot of people out there are not so keen on salmon, and i happen to be one of them. I love raw salmon to death, but when my parents cook up grilled salmon i want to cry. I don't know what it is, but i just don't really like it. So i decided tonight, once told salmon was on the menu, that i might come up with something a little more tasty. Here's the recipe:

Ingredients

3 salmon pieces, deboned and chopped into bits

2 bunches of asparagus, remove the woody end and chop the spear into 3

1 onion diced

3-4 garlic cloves

1 chicken stock cube

1 cup of cream

Bunch of parsley

Half a lemon or lime

Capers (if you like them)

Spaghetti

Boil spaghetti until aldente. Place the onions and garlic in a pan to sweat, once they have released some juice and become transparent crumble the stock cube and stir in. Then add the asparagus, salmon, lemon or lime juice and a hand full of capers. Once the salmon pieces are cooked through you can add the parsley, about 1/2 a cup. Before serving add the cream and stir through. Serve on top of spaghetti with a lime quarter for those who like it extra tart (like me!) and voila you have a really tasty dinner that helps you avoid boring grilled salmon.

I'm thinking i may start blogging about the monthly dinners i go on with Ellen. It's always interesting to compare each restaurant to the one before it. Some places are just incredible, amazing main, sumptuous dessert, and delicious cocktail. Where as others are a tad disappointing, no balance to the food, portions to big/small, service not ideal, chefs attempting to be too bold and new age. All in all, i love dinning out, and Ellen and i always like to discuss what we thought of the food in detail, so why not write about it. Hehe.

Cinnamon and Apple Cupcakes

When i am feeling kind of antsy, restless, frustrated, and annoyed, i like to pace around my kitchen and busy myself with some form of baking. Tonight i had a craving for apple and cinnamon muffins/cupcakes. I have a recipe that will make your mouth water, it make 12 delicious muffins or 21 tasty cupcakes depending on what size you like.

Ingredients for cupcakes
2 cups plain flour
1 tbs baking powder (sounds like a lot but is necessary)
2 tsp ground cinnamon
3/4 cup of brown sugar
2 medium apples of your choice, peeled and grated
125g butter/margarine, melted and cooled
2 eggs
3/4 cup of milk

Ingredients for icing
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp butter (room temp)
2 tsps milk
1/4 cup icing sugar

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease a muffin or cupcake tin with melted butter or cooking spray.

Sift together the flour, baking powder and cinnamon. Add the grated apple and the brown sugar. Mix the eggs, milk and butter separately and then add to the dry ingredients. Stir through, but only enough so that it is mixed. Over mixing will result in firm muffins.

Spoon the mixture evenly into your muffin/cupcake tin. Place in the oven and bake for 20 mins. Allow to cool and then ice.

I'll admit they don't look like the most appetizing cupcakes, but they taste pretty good. The icing is the key, it's really tasty.

Hi friends

Ok, i really have been a busy Petunia lately. I've been crafting left right and center. I've knitted, i've sewn, i've worked out my own cute little patterns. And i even managed to make an AMANDA PALMER DOLL. But she will need an entire post dedicated just to her, she is after all one of my favorite singers. So for now let me introduce you to Clementine, Maggie and Skip. I worked out the patterns myself, and had a lot of fun hand sewing them. Very simple and easy, felt is a lovely fabric to work with when it comes to toys.

Skip and his little cotton tail and love heart birth mark. He is an orange rabbit ostracized by his warren, and has come to make friends with some other irregular little creatures.

Clementine is a giraffe, quite irregular in color, and has misplaced her splodges. She likes apples and staring at yellow objects. Maggie is a kitty, plain and simple. Blue because her previous owners thought it funny to bath her in permanent dye.

My blind, deaf and mute lady was an experiment. I like her, she can stay. My mouse was also an experiment and turned out quite nicely, her skirt was fun to make.

Belinda the bunny and Eee the ghost. Belinda is one of my faves with her cute little scarf and sultry bunny eyes.

I haven't named these two little critters. The whale now belongs to Ellen so perhaps she might give it a suitable name. :)

Petunia's been busy in her onion patch

I was a busy little beaver this Christmas, making cute little softies for my Christmas tree, and a little friend for my bestie. It's fun sewing, especially when the final product are adorable little creatures. Below are my gorgeous little blue reindeer, there is also a brown one that i made for Ellen but i forgot to photograph him before giving him away.

And below is a mister Arnie the gingerbread man. I made him for my bestie Lachlan, who received some disappointing presents this year and needed something cute and pretty. Thus Arnie came to be. I was very proud of this softie actually, i came up with it all myself, made the pattern from scratch, sewed it so neatly and it turned out great.

If you would like one of these little sweeties made do let me know. I will charge $20 excluding postage. Also, if you have any particular animals you'd like made, just tell me and i'll work it out.

The delights of Christmas

So each year we celebrate Christmas Eve in the typical continental style. We had roast turkey, and a leg of ham for the first time (being Jewish it's rather odd you see), and some delicious salads, and crispy potatoes and roast veges and homemade stuffing and desserts of course. Miss Ellen joined us, as well as dads friend Alan and moms friends Hilda, Horus and Aislin. It turned out to be a truly delightful evening ending with a game of monopoly and present exchange.

Not only did i spend a lovely Christmas with the family, but boxing day has become the annual Friend Christmas. It was a delightfully warm day, spent at my friend Elyse's house. We ate, we talked, we took photos, we drank, and eventually we exchanged Secret Santa presents. Was a lovely day, very fun and silly as usual.

On the first day of Christmas, my house was sparkly...

I am sitting here singing along to Christmas songs and editing the pretty photos of my gorgeous Christmas tree. December is happy this year, well...happier than it's been some years. My to-buy list is slowly getting smaller, i'm am enjoying ticking presents off, all i need to do now is wrap, tag and distribute. Tehehe.

Our Christmas tree this year is Hanukkah themed and just looked delightful with it's shocking blue lights and glimmering silver and blue decorations. The bushes around our house are decorated too, with gold and green and red and pink and basically anything that didn't work on the tree. It's such a festive house this year.

Now other than decorating my house like a madwomen, i have also had the pleasure of baking some delicious Christmas delights with the kids i nanny.

So the quarterly Senso Sample Sale (Yes it need the capitals to emphasise the sibilance- i'm such an English nerd) was on this past Thursday-Saturday. Of course i went...twice, and wound up buying 2 pairs of heels, a pair of flats and a pair of boots. Haven't photographed the flats as they need a bit of fixing. Do tell me what you think of the rest though.

I just could not resist this cherry red summery pair of heels.
And for $50 they were a bargain!

Although these have a broken buckle they were well worth the $30
i paid for them as they fit like a glove and are SO comfortable.

BOOTS! You just don't find boots this soft, gorgeous or well made.
It almost makes me a little sad that i have to wait so long
until next winter. Well worth the $250.

I've also made some recent etsy purchases, which is naughty cause i am trying not to spend money, but i needed them i swear. I'll post them as soon as i have had a chance to take some piccies.

Sadly i have no photos to go along with this recipe, but my goodness i don't think it needs any. I was experimenting in the kitchen, as i often do, and i came up with this tasty recipe for an Asian inspired broth. I hope you love it as much as my mom and i did.

Ingredients for stock:

6 cups of water
6 chicken/vegetable stock cubes
1 large mild red chilli (de-seeded and sliced in half)
A few stalks of corriander from the roots to just before the leaves begin.
6 large slices of ginger
2 large garlic cloves (chopped)
1 palm length of lemon grass (chopped into 1 inch pieces)
A few lime leaves
1 large chopped spring onion (chopped roughly)
Chicken frame general chicken pieces

Ingredients for later on:

Decent bunch of corriander leaves (chopped finely)
Chilli (if you want additional heat)
1 big spring onion (chopped finely)
A few cherry tomatoes (5 per serving)

Place the stock ingredients in a pot and bring to the boil. Turn down to a simmer and simmer for 30-40 minutes. Strain stock and place back on the heat. Add the corriander leaves, spring onion and cherry tomatoes. If you have added chicken pieces you may add them now, they are not essential. Remove the pieces of ginger, lemon grass and lime leaves from the discarded stock and place back in the soup (it's nice to chew on the fragrant bits and pieces while you drink the soup). Optional additions include Chinese broccoli and noodles. Personally i like egg noodles, but thin rice noodles work nicely too. And my mom added a small slosh of coconut milk and fresh lime juice, was actually quite a nice addition.

Sydney weather has been less than co-operative lately. But in between the showers and hail, by some small miracle, we have been blessed with a few sunny days. So, of course, my crazy but loveable mother decided we needed some brightness in our garden and so instead of bring meat home one afternoon we arrived back with a boot-full of flowers.

Naturally the cats did very little to assist in the planting process. Guess the option to laze in the sun and explore the garden was too tantalizing.

Couldn't resist taking a snap of my mom struggling with the weeds in the unkempt flower bed. Oh and the stunning Jasmine that has filled my courtyard with the smell of spring.

The icing on the cake that is my now bright and bubbly garden, are these lovely little petunias! But luckily these petunias are not lonesome, nor are they stuck in a garden bed with onions. They are a little bedraggled at the moment, simply because we've had far too much rain lately for their liking.

Time is ticking

Ever sine i was a child i've had a fascination with clocks and watches. I like the noises they make, the way their hands move, the fact that you can actually see time ticking by and disappearing. I still have most of my childhood watch faces, and over the years i have been adding to the little collection. A few days ago i introduced two gorgeous vintage watches to the collection, take a look.

Gorgeous wind up clock. All i need is a long gold chain so i can hang it around my neck.

Isn't the cuckoo clock charm adorable, also a necklace style clock. The love the way the numbers are arranged so they face the wearer, very clever. They are both from the wonderful White Bird Design.

I must say i have some favourites out of the bunch. The one beside the butterfly is a watch i wore as a kid. It has a cat in the middle, and the second hand is a little black mouse. I always loved how it looked like the cat was eyeing the mouse as it moved around the clock face. My other favourite is what i call my Alice in Wonderland watch. It's the green, pink and purple one. Has a cute little love heart on the face, and a button that lights it up.

Happy belated Halloween!

Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year. I have a morbid fascination with all things horror. Can't help it, been that way since i was a little kiddlet. I really won't be surprised if i become a forensic psychologist. Anyway, this Halloween was really great. I got to dress up twice, in two different, but both equally fantastic, costumes. I already mentioned that cat Astin is on Ellen's blog, but here you can see possessed ragdoll Astin.

The little boy ragdoll attached to me is of course my undead husband Jason. Isn't he gorgeous? my great gran knitted him, and one day decided to give him to me before i immigrated to Australia. He was the first thing i wanted to play with when i visited her house.

Cupcakes!

I am a big fan of baking. I find it relaxing and fun, especially when you're baking with 2 kids. I'm a nanny, if i haven't already mentioned that, and each Friday we pick a recipe and bake! We make a nice big mess, we do tons of mixing, and we each take turns in liking the bowls and spoons and various other implements. This week was cupcakes. Vanilla for Bella and i, and chocolate for Ben.

Here's the recipe:

120g Butter

2/3 cup caster sugar (i used brown as i prefer the flavour)

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 eggs (around 59g if you can)

1 + 1/4 cups self raising flour

1/2 cup milk

Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees.

Cream butter and sugar until a pale smooth consistency. Add vanilla extract and eggs one by one. When eggs are incorporated sift in flour and add milk. At this point i halved the mixture and added 2 tsps of cocoa powder to one bowl to make delicious chocolate cupcakes. I suspect melted chocolate would work even better. Stir until mixture is smooth and no longer lumpy. Spoon into cupcake tins, mixture should make 12 medium sized cupcakes.

Allow cupcakes to cool before putting icing on them. Use any icing recipe you enjoy, personally i like to add a tiny bit of melted butter to mine as it adds to the flavour and also gives the icing a nice texture and glossy finish. Decorate with cachous, sprinkles, icing pens or any other edible treats you enjoy. And voilà!

Sadly i did not get a chance to photograph the fantastic Halloween cookies i baked with the kids. I cut out all the shapes by hand, we had a witches face, a ghost, a broomstick, a few signs, some pumpkin faces, some cute little BOO, AHH and EEK cookies, and a Frankenstein monster. I will post the recipe another time as it was actually quite tasty. Also, keep a look out for a Halloween post, it will be up sometime this week. A weekend of vintage, sunlight and parasols

It was a really lovely weekend spent perusing the Love Vintage Fair, attempting not to blow away, and in contrast walking along the sunny streets of Sydney. The weather literally went from chilly and intensely windy, to bright and sunny in the space of a weekend. I finally got the chance to wear my lovely ocean scene skirt, as well as my cute little 70's sun dress. I bought a gorgeous parasol at the fair, i couldn't resist a peacock themed, hand painted item like that. It's lovely, isn't it?

What happens when a cat gets wet

So this is an entirely irrelevant silly post that i just simply had to share with all of you. I am not just a lover of vintage, a crafter, an amateur photographer, but i am also a cat lover. And naturally, being a cat lover, i have 3 of my own. It came to my attention today that 2 of my funny little kitties were really rather stinky, and so we had bath time. This was the result....

This is my little orange Figaro, named of course after the cat in Pinnochio (i thought i was awesome when i chose that name at age 9).

And this my dears is Tippany, the little rat cat. I find her quite intriguing and beautiful really, but i guess others may disagree. She's named for the way the tip of her tail always curls.

Don't think my kitties are overly happy with me for this afternoons bath time fun, but at least they both smell delicious.

I just love that skirt, the image is of an ocean road. There are trees and bushes, and then in the ocean are little boats and mountains. It's just so lovely.

It seems that spring really has arrived as our Wisteria has blossomed and is already being pollinated by hoards of bees. It was like walking into a horror movie, where all you can hear is an eerie buzzing, and you have no idea where it is coming from, and then you look up just as the swarm of bees engulfs and kills you. Ok, i have a wild imagination, but i was a little freaked out.

I've been crafting again, expect some craft themed updates.

The men in my life

It's been a lovely weekend as per usual, spent with the lovely Ellen. The weekend was busy, and involved a lot of cleaning, which was i have to admit i rather enjoy. But even with our cleaning and trips to the hair dresser and RTA, we managed to find our way to Vinnies. we are hopeless little things. I am glad we have no willpower though, else i wouldn't have found the most gorgeous little porcelain dolls.

We all know the wonderful Mr Charley Chaplain, with his cute little moustache, constantly fashioning a cane and bola hat. And hopefully all of you also know the delightfully silly Laurel and Hardy, famous from the 20's to the 40's. I now have dolls of those three wonderful comedians, thanks to Ellen's observing eyes.

The beauty of rings

I've always had an obsession with rings, ever since i was a little girl. Amusingly enough i've also always had expensive taste, so i tend to point out rings that cost somewhere in the thousands. Etsy is wonderful. I love it, i hate it, i talk to it, i smile at it, it brings happiness to my sometimes dreary life and i can't help but let it drain my account.

I thought i might share some of the amazing rings that i am currently considering buying for myself. I don't usually treat myself in such a way, but some of these are just too irresistible. Let me know what you think, opinions are always appreciated.

9 months late

I am a very slack little blogger, and cannot believe that it has been over 9 months since i posted here. I've had a lot of other things on my mind including uni and a nanny job, but that is no excuse. So here i am, back again, starting up my blog once more. I am not sure how many pieces of jewelry or little soft friends i will make, but i will start posting some recent clothing purchases and at some point i'll introduce you to my gorgeous house.

So here goes, below are some of my etsy purchases/gifts which i am unbelievably in love with.

The most stunning 1950's evening dress. It has a velvet bodice, synthetic puffy skirt, and beautiful cream lace. I wore it to my 21st birthday party (i'll post an entire entry showing off how lovely the evening was). Bought from Little Veggie Vintage.

A gift from the lovely Sue and Sam, courtesy of Dear Golden Vintage. It has a wonderfully low back, is soft and light and great for summer. I eyed it for so long, couldn't afford it, and was pleasantly surprised when my lovely friends bought it for my 21st. Such great print. Aren't the 70's cute?

Another delightful dress from Dear Golden Vintage. From the 80's as i recall. Funny story with this one. Lauren sent me the wrong dress originally, but is so sweet and decided i should keep both. I'll photograph the other at some point and show you how gorgeous it is. Else you can scout the lovely Ellen from A Wild Tea Party blog, as she has it photographed it on there (hint: it's navy blue and has pearls around the top of the dress)

I bought these 50's cream gloves from Revolving Styles as a cute edition to my 21st dress. I was so glad for them too as it was a really chilly night. Love the little bead embellishments.

Originally this stunning bag was meant as a uni bag. I idiotically misread the measurements and thought it was much bigger than it actually was. But no worry, i have not used another handbag since receiving this from Chrissy Poo Vintage, and am sadly starting to wear it out slightly. It's clearly very well loved.

This is a recent purchase which i am eagerly awaiting the arrival of. It's a 70's stunner, bright and bubbly, perfect for the gorgeous spring weather we are having in Sydney. I cannot wait to prance around uni among the drab black, grey, white and denim that people are sporting. Found at the Emporium of the Forgotten, do take a look, Jessica as some great things.

I promise to return soon with more posts, perhaps i will start a new craft project. I actually have a few in mind, which is always a good sign.

Happy holidays fellow bloggers and friends

Merry Christmukkah lovely ones. I hope you have all had a splendid Christmas Eve and are about to enjoy a most lovely Christmas and Boxing Day.

I have spent the past week shopping for various presents and foodstuffs. A day has not passed where i have not been in the Bondi Junction shopping centre frantically searching for one thing or another. Luckily all the rush and fuss is over, and i can sit back relax and enjoy my Christmas like everyone else.

Must admit i have take great pleasure this year in choosing presents, i find it so comforting when i find something that is absolutely perfect for a particular person. I also thoroughly enjoy wrapping presents, which is why this year i have wrapped essentially every present under the tree. Yes, even my own. :P

I'm rather proud of the tree this year. Damen and i went with a silver and gold theme, which has resulted in a very neat and beautiful tree. The minora is out too, along with our angels and all the Christmas stockings. They're stocked with chocolates and lollies and will be ravaged in a matter of hours.

Other than wrapping presents, i also enjoy making them. This year i haven't really had the chance to make many, but i decided that i'd make something special for my girlfriend. A while ago i nicknamed her missy mouse and ever since that day her guy friends have taunted and teased us about it. So i thought it would be a cute idea to make her a missy mouse, who i have named Belinda.

It was a good Christmas Eve i must say. Especially because i had the chance to spend the day cooking, just me and my lovely brother.

I have a few things i have been meaning to post, some new purchases, a few new softies and some delicious recipes ect. But they will come at a later date, i promise.

The delight that are vintage bags

I was always one of those kids who would quietly raid their mothers cupboard and parade around in their mothers clothes. I used to try on moms wedding dress, her heals, and even commandeer her handbags. Recently i rediscovered a little collection of bags that i always adored. Most of them are cute evening bags, some are just amusingly 80's, others are sophisticated. All of them are now officially mine, and will make perfect editions to my summer outfits.

I have already worn the black fan bag. It's just disgustingly 80's and so cute. I plan on using the others during the summer holidays, as much clubbing and general partying will be taking place. Below is just a photo of my 'vintage' bags, some of which are older than others.

So Halloween has been and gone and unfortunately was not the most frightening of Halloweens. I spent the evening at a concert with some very awesome friends, and managed to do nothing Halloweenish. Saw a couple of wonderfully decorated houses though, with pumpkins and copwebs and electronic arms that move as you walk past. Very cool.

I recieved my gorgeous burgandy glomesh bag today. Would have had it on Friday but the idiots at the postoffice put it under the senders name and not the recievers. Either way it is stunning and exactly how i had imagined it. I'll post the picture that the sender used on eBay.

Ah bags, such wonderful accessories. Despite my pitiful collection i do so adore bags, namely vintage bags. So this entry is well and truly dedicated to bags and the wonderful purchases i have made recently or will make very soon.

This first bag is one i bought a few months ago at the Salvos near my uni. It cost a grand total of $5 at a spectacular Salvos 50% off sale. Almost ridiculous that Salvos has sales when the items are so very cheap to begin with. Ah well, doesn't bother me ;) The bag isn't anything particularly special, but it is sweet and goes rather well with the blue and white dress i bought a few months ago.

The next 3 bags were discovered at a gorgeous Vintage Fair at Cantebury. The first is a carpet bag with a silver bobble clasp. I found it so charming and for $25 it was a bargain. The second is black velvet with a black ribbon along the front and a square diamante button. It's such a perfect evening bag, small and solid and cost $10! The last bag is a gold glomesh bag which i bought for my best friend Alice, but have decided i am too attached to part with it. It has a long strap and short strap, very convenient, and cost $26.

After a day of admiring vintage bags, clothes and jewelry, i decided to scout the internet for some lovely pieces. I must say glomesh bags are such lovely things and i always admire them on other people. After a thorough look on eBay i found this incredible bargain. 6 glomesh bags for about $25, give or take. This collection contains the most popular glomesh colors: white, cream, gold and silver. I don't think i can resist this purchase, but luckily i have 6 days to think about it before a decision is made. Perhaps one will be for Alice, as she really does want a glomesh bag and i feel so awful about keeping the one i bought for her.

This last bag is something rare and wonderful. It is fairly easy to get your hands on any of the above glomesh bags, the colors are rather common. Pink and mauve, however, are not common at all. There is the lovely pale pink matt glomesh, or the gorgeous metallic mauve glomesh. I have found one for $35 including postage. Take a look and you too will fall in love.

Recently i have rediscovered http://www.ebay.com.au/, the wonderful online store that literally has EVERYTHING. I found some amazing vintage materisls which i will transform into cute little softies.

This one i just fell in love with. The colours, the flowers, it's just so retro and cute. It cost a total of $3.55 including postage.

I'm not sure exactly what i will use this one for, but i found the bunnies and bears theme quite charming. I guess i can make a toy for my baby cousin, Twiggi.

A big thanks to recycling_junkie who sold me both pieces of material. Her collection is really very good.

And of course there are some pieces of meterial i am dying to buy, but most of it is just that little bit too expensive. Take a look at the following and let me know what you think.

Three pieces of material in the one package, and all for $4.10 including postage. The material all measures half a metre, and they are just so stunningly kitsh.

I love anything to do with tea, because tea is magic. Unfortunately this piece of material is just too expensive for the amount they give, a total of $9.15 for just under half a metre. I simply can't justify buying it :(

The newest members of my softie family

Ive been on a softy rampage lately, creating cute new softies from the 'more softies' book that Cassie brought home a couple of weeks ago. It's been fun getting back into sewing, especially considering how interested the kids are (the ones i nanny). Me and the youngest, Zoe, went to spotlight to choose some fabrics and buttons and threads and various other bits and bobs.

I made her a little dog who she named Daisy. So, without further ado, it's my pleasure to introduce Daisy dog.

And my next little creaton is called Cleo the elephant. She is a present for a little girl who just immigrated to Australia.

And lastly i'd like to introduce Beeny the bunny who is roughly stitched together and not at all well made. But she is still adoreable.

Soon you will be dazzled with Becky's dog, and another little elephant for the other little girl who just immigrated. They will be up as soon as they are created :)

Getting down in denim

I have been shopping once more. It's an illness i swear. But at least good things come from over spending money. For instance i found some devine denim numbers that i have posted below, all of which i adore and cannot stop wearing.

The two skirts are both from Cotton On, not somewhere i regularly shop, but when i went in this time i liked what i saw. The high waisted shorts are from the Bondi markets and are so perfectly fitted to my figure i could swear they were made for me. And i love them with my brand new leotard that i got on sale at a cute shop in Broadway shopping centre. I need more leotards, pity i can't find any of my old ballet ones. Speaking of old leotards, when i do find them i will post a crafty entry about how to make a very ordinary leotard something a little more special using some very simple ingredients :)

Hello darling ones. I have not posted in a long while, i am very very sorry. I recently purchased some gorgeous vintage/second hand things, and decided i would share them with you lovely ones. I also made a new softy out of some random scraps that i was about to throw out. She is scraggly and very odd, but i like her, and her name is Widget and she is a Magic Mushroom.

My new craft box for all things that are not jewelry related. It has buttons, ribbons, needles and thread, old broken broaches and necklace pieces, pretty floral hair ties and old watch faces. I will be creating much with all these things :)

Delicious Cauliflower Soup Recipe

Recipe time everyone. Something tasty that will warm you up in this cold cold weather. You guessed it, soup! And not only will this soup warm you up so very quickly, it tastes so good that you are bound to return for seconds. Something interesting is that this soup was named after Madame du Barry and dates from the time of the French Revolution and is still going strong :) Enjoy!

Cream of Cauliflower Soup

Ingredients

25mL oil

12.5mL butter

2 leeks

1 onion

500g cauliflower

1 litre chicken stock

2 bay leaves

5mL dry mustard

2 medium potatoes

10mL lemon juice

salt and pepper

250mL milk

feta cheese and paprika to garnish

Instructions

Heat oil and butter in a large pot and add chopped onion and sliced leeks. Allow to soften without browning.
Add cauliflower florets, peeled and cubed potato and the rest of the ingredients.
Cover and simmer for 25 minutes or until the vegetables are soft.
Cool slightly, remove bay leaves and puree the soup in a blender till smooth.
Return to the pot and reheat gently without boiling.
Check seasoning. Add a swirl of cream if you please.

Lately i have been absolutely obesessed with sewing. Mel bought me a great book for Christmas called Softies. Basically it is filled with patterns to make cute little softies. I have made a fair few lately, in between the craziness of the new year. I recently saw that there is a second book, so be prepared for many more softies :)

This is probably my favorite of the lot. Mincey the Monkey.

This one is cute, with it's big cuddly body and pretty eyes. Reminds me of a friend who likes owls.

Buzzy Bee, who i made for my dad (nickname Buzz).

The cutest little monster, whose name i have not come up with...suggestions are welcome.

Cosmonaut devil , who belongs to Damen. He's my second favorite.

This is supposedly a strange Alien, hence it being photographed next to my little Devon Rex, Tippany. I made this one and mom decided she liked it best, so it is now hers.

Delicious gingerbread cookies

Hello again loves. Happy new year to you all.

I stole my grans camera on Christmas and photographed the cookies i made for her. Luckily she sent me the photo, and here it is:

My delicious gingerbread cookies, decorated by yours truly and Damen (my awsome little brother whose emo is my favorite).

Here is the recipe, which i must add was fantastic: moist and crispy and wonderfully spiced.

Ingredients:

1 cup butter

2/3 cup packed brown sugar

2/3 cup golden syrup

1 egg, beaten

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

4 cups all-purpose flour

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground ginger

3/4 teaspoon ground cloves (which i excluded)

Directions:

Cream the butter, brown sugar and golden syrup. Stir the egg and vanilla into the mixture until smooth. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves; stir into the wet mixture. Cover and chill dough for a few hours or overnight. Preheat oven to 165 degrees C. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into shapes with a cookie cutter, and place onto a buttered cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, cookies should be firm but moist. Enjoy!!!

I did promise some recipes my dears. And so here is my favorite cookie recipe of all times. I adore white chocolate, and macadamia's are so delicious when baked. Which is why white choc chip and macadamia nut cookies are my all time fave. Here is a great recipe that produces a crunchey yet moist cookie (best eaten within 10 minutes of being of the oven- oozy chocolatey goodness).

White Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Cookies

1 cup butter, softened1 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed

2 teaspoons vanilla

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 eggs2

1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 teaspoons baking soda

10 ounces white chocolate (chips or bars cut in chunks)

1 cup macadamia nuts, chopped into chunks

Directions:
Heat oven to 375 F. In large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt with electric mixer until creamy. Add eggs, beat well. Stir together flour, and the baking soda; gradually add to butter mixture,beating until well blended. Stir in white chocolate chips and macadamia nuts. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. (Edges are golden brown and center is set.) Cool slightly, remove from cookie sheet to wire rack to cool completely.

Soon to come is a lovely recipe, Lauren found in a cooking magazine, for gingerbread lads and lass'. I'm not such a fan of the ones that involve molasses, so this year i am making molasses free gingerbread.

I'll also post my brothers sickeningly sweet recipe for mars bar pie. He is very proud of his creation (which one bite of will clog your arteries and send you into heart failure), and hopefully someone out there has a big enough sweet tooth to enjoy it.

The past few weeks have brought a large amount of Christmas Spirit into Petunia's Onion Patch. The house is oozing with Chrismukkah goodness. We have our gorgeous minora up, with it's blue snowflake candles and dangly Santa canes. There are angel decorations dotted around the place and a Christmas tree with gold and silver dripping from each branch.

Ignore the crummy photography, as i am using a very old camera as a temporary replacement *mourns camera's death*.

Brighten up your outfit

Ribbons are such lovely little treats. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors and materials and can be used for any number of things. I recently ventured into the wonderful world of Spotlight and rediscovered the ribbon isle. I have been inspired by the film Marie Antoinette, and decided to buy some gorgeous ribbon which I will transform into necklaces, bracelets and hair ribbons.

If you want to add a little sparkle to your outfit without spending too mcuh money or looking over the top, take a thin ribbon and attach a broach to it, or perhaps a loner necklace charm. It is elegant, pretty and cheap, so why not give it a go?

A metre of ribbon is generally enough for a choker necklace and a bracelet. Thin ribbon is best for necklaces as it keeps the neck looking long and slender.

Thicker ribbon is good for hair, though thin ribbon works equally as well. Play around with color combos and see what suits you.

Christmas is fast approaching. Carefully prying it's way into our lives. Shops are bright and glistening with decorations. Families are out and about collecting various gifts for various people. The city is buzzing and humming with Christmas whispers. And yet, i hardly feel like bothering with Christmas this year. I'd rather let it pass by me, have nothing to do with it for once, pretend that it simply does not exist. I guess that won't happen, and hopefully i will gain Christmas spirit over the coming weeks as i do generally enjoy such festivities.

On a slightly brighter note, i will be making a Christmas bunny, not because i am a Christmas nut, but because green and red are lovely colours and i may as well attempt to get into the spirit of things. And soon i will be knitting something other than bunnies, as they are becoming extremely tedious. I am currently making a gorgeous dolly, half knitted, half machine sewn, i will reveal her as soon as she is finished.

This morning, after dragging myself from bed, i slipped outside for a quick squiz at the world and noticed that my gorgeous little Hydrangea is in fully bloom. It was originally part of a biology experiment, and seems to have recovered quite nicely and returned to it's stunningly bright shade of blue.

Continuing on the note of beauty in the world, i captured quite a lovely sunset yesterday. One must of course take advantage of Mel's stunning view, which is exactly what i did.

Introducing Buttons the bunny.

This cute little knitted bunny is called Buttons. I was informed by my friends that calling a bunny that meant i had to sew some buttons onto her (hence the 3 on her back). She is made from 3 different 4 ply wools. She was a hard one to make, with all the wool changing, but i think she is my favorite of the bunnies so far. If you want to buy a bunny let me know, i charge $10 for the small, $15 for the medium, and $20 for the large.

Above are Mel and my latest invention. They are minute paper cranes, made from 3.5cm by 3.5cm origami paper, attached to silver chains. We will probably be selling them for between $3 and $5 depending on the size. The left are made from metallic silver paper and those on the right are made from green paper with an orange and white floral pattern.

Bunnies!!! <3

I have been in a creative frenzy, i get that way when i am need of a distraction. Hence, in three days i have whipped up 8 bunnies. There are 2 bunny families. The first is the black/yellow bunny family and the second is the blue/purple and pink bunny family.

Not the greatest photo. The middle bunny is obviously half black and half yellow. I wanted to test what that would look like. I think it turned out fairly well. The other two bunnies have a much better shape.

I just love the colours here. The shapes of these bunnies are not overly great, but they were testers in many ways. The purple bunny is well made actually. The baby pink bunny has issues. I ran out of that pink wool just as i finished the body and realized i had left none for the ears, hence the black ears.

Delicious punch recipe

Ingredients (serves 12)
6 fruity tea bags of your choice (lychee, mango or rasberry work very well)
24 mint leaves, torn
4 cups boiling water
2 cups canned pineapple juice, chilled

4 cups of canned lychee juice
2 passionfruit, halved
6 tinned lychees
3 cups ice cubes
2 cups ginger beer, chilled

Method
Place tea bags and half the mint in a large, heatproof jug. Add boiling water. Jiggle tea bags for 4 minute. Discard. Refrigerate tea until cold.
Add passionfruit pulp, halved lychees, pineapple juice, lychee juice and the rest of the mint leaves. Stir until passionfruit seeds separate and tea is well combined. Chill until ready to serve.
Half-fill each glass with tea. Add ice cubes and top with ginger beer. Serve iced tea immediately.

I attended a lovely little school fate with a friend and her younger sisters on the weekend. There was a a garage-type-sale in the hall, so my friend and i explored and found some wonderous little treasures. Here they are below.

I was hoping that i'd have created or found a wonderful array of Halloween inspired items. Sadly i haven't had the time or money for these creations. Oh well. Instead i have been creating little beaded bookmarks. I saw a bunch in borders which are really lovely, but far too expensive ($15-$20), so i decided to make my own.

I am in an unusually creative mood lately. In truth, if i were able, i would sew, knit, make jewelry and song write all at the same time. But due to lack of 1000 arms, i shall do those things one at a time. Below are todays earring creations.

I love these beads. They are multicolored glass squares with silver and gold filagree on the inside. ($10)

Little gold mushroom charms that i found at my local art store. I fell in love with them (they remind me of the mushrooms in Fantasia). I am going back for the tea pot charms, rose charms and trebble cleff charms. (not for sale, but if you want a pair i'll make some for $8)

These look a lote more spectacular in person. The beads are clear with red centres and floral decorations on. There are silver attachments above and below the beads. ($8)

Knitted Bunnies

For those of you who like knitting, or want to start knitting, here is a really easy way to knit a bunny. You can make them any size you want, depending on your needle thickness and amount of stitches per row. Personally i like to use quite thin needles, 4-5mm, and 50 stitches with 8 ply wool. For the body you knit a square, try and make sure it is as exact as possible, as it makes it easier. The ears are triangles, knitting 12 stitches for 2 rows, then 10 for 2, then 6 for 2, then 4 for 2, then 2 for 2, and then 1 for 1. The tail can be either a cotton wool glued on, or some white wool made into a small ball and sewn onto the bunnies bottom.

Below are some of the bunnies i have created, one of which i have photographed as i have gone along. Feel free to ask any questions if you are confused.

The yellow bunny is made from a very soft wool that is quite thick. The pale blue bunny is made from pure cotton wool, 4 ply, very hard to use due to it's thinness, i recommend something thicker. And the dark blue and pale purple bunnies are made using furry, metallic wool. I don't recommend using this wool either as it does not turn out as well as other wool. The shape of the bunnies is often unrecognisable with this wool.

The thing on the end of my knitting needle is a row counter. This is very useful when you are trying to remember whether you are on a knit row or a pearl row. With the bunnies you can either knit them in a knit 1 pearl 1 fashion, or simply do all knit or all pearl.

A large collection of wool is always good, this helps with variety, experimenting and means you can cater to anyones taste.
